Dancing With The Stars judge Derek Hough and his wife of nearly three years, Hayley Erbert Hough, are preparing to welcome their first child. They announced the exciting news on social media on July 22, 2025.
The post featured a video of Derek walking towards her, followed by her wrapping her arms around him and showing off ultrasound photos.
The caption read, “We can’t believe the biggest thing to happen to us could be so small,” in reference to the song they used on the post, which was Alexander Jean’s emotional song “So Small.” Alexander Jean is comprised of Derek’s longtime friend and current Dancing With The Stars pro Mark Ballas and his wife, BC Jean.

In December 2023, Hayley Suffered A Cranial Hematoma
Just a few months after they were married, Derek and Hayley set out on a live tour, where they shared their talents with fans night after night. During a show in Washington, D.C., she felt off and didn’t finish the performance. She was rushed to the hospital where they discovered she had a burst blood vessel that caused a cranial hematoma and needed emergency surgery.
She had to have multiple surgeries but was expected to make a full recovery. And she did! In April 2024, Hayley made a triumphant return to the tour after four months of rehab and recovery.
She and Derek told their emotional story through dance in October 2024 during the “Dedication Night” episode of Dancing With The Stars.
We didn’t know at the time, but they were actually telling multiple stories.
Hayley & Derek Reveal They Suffered A Miscarriage
On October 15, 2025, just one day after Dancing With The Stars‘ dedication night, where Derek may have accidentally revealed the gender of their baby, Hayley shared their story in honor of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.
“There are some things in life that change you forever. For us, this is one of those things. A chapter of love, loss, heartbreak, and everything in between. As we are now in October, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, we share this part of our story to honor our baby that never made it earthside. One in four pregnancies end in miscarriage, a silent heartbreak so many families know, and one we unfortunately had to experience. As we share this, know that there’s a rainbow not far behind,” she wrote on Instagram.
The post included a montage of videos of the couple happily announcing the news with ultrasound photos, footage of them at the doctors’ office, and videos of Hayley telling Derek she is pregnant, as well as them telling their friends and family.
“This video is a tribute to a part of our story. A chapter of loss, love, celebration, heartbreak, and everything in between. Although we are so excited to be welcoming our rainbow baby so soon, we honor our baby that never made it earthside,” they wrote in the video.
The couple even did their own sweet gender reveal, but posted it in black and white.

They didn’t reveal when they suffered the miscarriage, but they did include a clip from their emotional 2024 dance on DWTS, where Derek is holding Hayley’s stomach and they were both visibly emotional.
The final video they included was of the couple embracing while crying, likely right after they found out the terrible news. Hayley also included a couple clips from this video in her 2024 recap video, confirming that the miscarriage did take place sometime in 2024.
Our hearts go out to Derek and Hayley, and we commend them for sharing their story. We’re sure it will give others courage and hope.
